First Steps in Digital Preservation at the College Park Aviation Museum: A Case Study

The poster presents a graduate student’s experience serving as a digital preservation consultant for the CPAM. The student began by surveying the museum's digital collections and current preservation efforts and then used the NDSA's "Levels of Digital Preservation" as a basis for offering suggestions to expand and improve existing practices.
 
 
Preserving Sensitive Data in Distributed Digital Preservation Networks

No distributed digital preservation service offering for sensitive data exists, so sensitive data in the custody cultural heritage institutions are at risk of loss. The Preserving Sensitive Data in Distributed Digital Storage Networks project will develop a nationwide model that would close gaps in current preservation offerings for sensitive data.

The Frick Collection is struggling to ingest its backlog of digitized material. I will characterize our preservation project in broad strokes and identify possible bottlenecks to ingest. I hope to solicit input from the community regarding viable methods of increasing throughput, or of common technical problems that should be addressed.

For the past several years, the University of Illinois Library has been quietly developing a repository service with a different approach from others on offer, with an integrated, AWS-based repository that consolidates preservation, description, and access. This previews our approach and provides a peek under the hood.
